When we first imagined bringing Roxy Movies to Middlesbrough, we knew it had to be more than just a place to watch films. Opening in July 2025, thanks to support from Middlesbrough Council, this independent cinema is now nestled in the heart of the town centre, offering a fresh, cultural addition to the high street. It's a community-oriented venture, based on creativity and accessibility.
We have reconfigured a unit of the Captain Cook Square into a cosy, high-quality venue where visitors can enjoy the best in blockbusters, indies, family films, and event cinema. We believe film should be a luxury that everyone can afford, free of the price mark-up. But above all, we love the chance to create a new purpose for this space: one that blends entertainment, local business, and civic pride.
From school group collaborations to partnerships with local creatives and cultural organisations, we’re building something here that we hope the whole town can feel part of.
Whether you're walking over from the bus station, dropping by after some shopping in the square, or out with friends at night, Roxy Movies Middlesbrough Cinema is here for you. This isn’t just a cinema. It’s a part of Middlesbrough’s story.
